Sigiriya One-Day Tour with Dambulla & Village Experience

   Sigiriya Village Tour Experience

   At 11:00 AM, immerse yourself in authentic Sri Lankan village life. Enjoy a traditional bullock cart ride through the countryside, take a peaceful catamaran boat ride, and participate in a hands-on cooking experience. Learn about local traditions and daily village life.

   Traditional Village Lunch

   Savor a delicious traditional Sri Lankan village lunch served on a lotus leaf. Experience authentic local cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients and traditional methods.

   Dambulla Golden Cave Temple

   At 2:00 PM, visit the sacred Dambulla Golden Cave Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the five cave temples filled with over 150 Buddha statues and stunning ancient murals that span over 2,000 years of history.

   Return Journey

   Depart from Dambulla at 3:30 PM and begin your return journey. Arrive back at your hotel around 7:30 PM with unforgettable memories of Sri Lanka's cultural heritage.

Opening hours

The site opens at 5:00 am and closes at 6:30 pm, with the ticket office issuing until about 5:00 pm. Opening time is the hour worth having: the stone holds heat, and the upper stairways have almost no shade.

Tickets

Published at US$35 for a non-SAARC adult and US$20 for a child, with SAARC nationals at US$20. Children under six go free. Tickets are not included in this tour, so you pay at the gate.

The climb itself

About 1,200 steps to a summit 349 m above sea level and roughly 200 m above the plain, in stages with landings. Allow around two hours for the round trip at an unhurried pace, longer when the stairways are busy.

Pidurangala

The neighbouring rock, climbed for the view back at Sigiriya. It is a different and rougher walk, and it is not a substitute — the ruins, gardens and frescoes are all on Sigiriya itself.

Hours and tickets

Open daily from about 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, with the ticket counter closing around 5:00 pm. Foreign entry is published at LKR 1,500 and is not included in this tour.

Dress code

Shoulders and knees covered, hats off, shoes off before entering the caves. Sarongs can be hired at the foot of the climb if you arrive unprepared. The steps up are stone and get hot underfoot by the middle of the day.

The village half of the day

The bullock cart, catamaran ride and cooking experience sit between the two sites. There is no fixed published venue for these — they are arranged on the day with the family hosting them, which is why no location is pinned on the map.
